SOS Children's villages and Ghana

SOS Children's Villages has been active in Ghana since 1970. In this West African country we’re active in various locations with our family-oriented care. We help children in Ghana, who are on their own, to grow up in a safe and loving family with everything that goes with it. We also help families who live in such difficult circumstances that they cannot take care of their children themselves without assistance. We provide these families with aids and support in the care of their children. Here you will find more information about our children's village Kumasi.

You can support our work in Ghana by participating in The Hike, by sponsoring a participant who is participating in the Hike or by making a general donation to the event.

The money that is raised with The Hike goes to our SOS children's villages and our other programs in Ghana. The sponsor money is used to give more children a safe home and a loving family. Thanks to the support of the participants, children can count on the care of a family with everything that goes with it. Preferably their own family. If this is no longer possible, we ensure that the children wil be included in one of our villages.

For example, with €1500 SOS Children's Villages you provide two children in a children's village with the following:

• Medication for a year              €   130
• Food and drink for a year       € 1.070
• Clothes for a year                   €   300
• Total:                                       €1.500

SOS Children's Villages also tries to prevent family breakdowns which causes children to be left alone, by including families in our family strengthening programs in Ghana. For € 2,700 we can help three children who live in a family that would fall apart without our help for a period of 5 years. 

Your gift will certainly be spent well! SOS Children's Villages has been meeting the requirements of the Central Fundraising Office (CBF) for responsible fundraising for years. The CBF is the supervisor for charities in the Netherlands. More than 500 charities can be tested by this organization against strict quality requirements. At SOS Children's Villages we aim for a spending percentage (spending on objectives / total income) of around 80%. In 2017, the percentage of target spending in relation to income came to 79.57%.

Your donations are deductible if the amount you give exceeds 1% of your taxable income. So suppose your income is €25,000, then 1% is € 250. When you f.i. give € 300, € 50 is deductible. You will receive a part in return
